Great post from one of my favorite bloggers on ways to use LinkedIn. As usual, he exceeds expectations by delivering a bonus reason in addition to the basic 10.
If you're looking to give your network numbers a hyperboost, consider joining LinkedIn Lions. However, when deciding on how "open" you want your network to become, be sure to consider some of the side effects, like an increase in spam.

I used LinkedIn to great success, upgraded my account to the $20 per month level. Once I was ready to return to the free account, I had to notify LinkedIn with multiple emails before they would respond and because there is no phone number listed. They confirmed my account would switch to the free membership. And then while they were at it, deleted my profile and all the connections I had made. I think that is a disgraceful way of doing business. I'd steer everyone away from paying for an upgrade if they think LinkedIn would ever allow them to return to free and keep their info.

Besides the time line, Plurk brings nothing else to the table. Flame on :-)" - It's much easier to keep track of replies to your updates on Plurk. But I'm glad several people have suggested Plurk here. I've seen way too much Plurk hate on my Twitter timeline. Anyway, my real comment on your article would be: I think it's sad looking at it, considering several have been around before Twitter and now they look like copycats on some random list. estetik

I see the value in Linkedin, but still find it difficult to find groups in my area to join. Maybe my home town is just too conservative.

I had a very similar experience to Stacey. LinkedIn seems to want to hold you into a pay account and will punish you if you don't comply.
